Sexuality in our Society

Abstract

Sexuality and gender are some of the two major important elements in the society or community. As well, they do form important pillars when it comes to the issue of society and human sociology. Sexuality, therefore, can be something that is hard to define or describe, and especially when viewing it from the social aspect. Different communities have been known to have varied interpretations and understanding on what sexuality ought to be, but the best thing is that all of their views tend to come to a common agreement on what will be referred as sexuality. This paper therefore comes up with a research on establishing the major issues surrounding sexuality in our society and what should it mean for any given society.

Introduction

There are a number of societal and social concerns, which have to be addressed effectively in our societies. Some of these social concerns might include things like gender and gender roles, sexuality, and cultural attributes. All these are quite important and worth considering in any given society. For instance, sexuality in the society is something quite important, and which has been on discussion for the longest time ever (Roger, 2000). The reason why sexuality is such an important topic is that it has great influences on the society since it covers wide dimension of areas such as human sexuality, in which one can either be a male or a female, and gender identity, and overall human orientation on sexuality. In that case, this paper tries to come up with a research study and useful information on the issues revolving around sexuality and significance in the society.

Understanding of Sexuality

Human beings are the best social organisms whose cohesion in the society has to be something very important. In that case, all the human fears, attributes, desires, dreams and aspirations are based on the societal foundation. In that case, all elements of the society shall greatly influence the shaping of the given society (Giddens, 2003). This has been the major reason why sexuality bears such a big responsibility in the society as one of these societal elements. In that case, the role of sexuality should be highly considered in the society because it shall competently determine how different individuals interact with each other and how issues of sex and human pairing shall reshape themselves within the society. Generally, we shall therefore see sexuality as a form of humanity, which will express and determine how human beings shall experience or express themselves in sexual terms, or rather, as purely sexual beings. That way, a proper understanding of sexuality shall influence human recreation and ethical guidance that are necessary in the society (Roger, 2000).

It has been agreed by experts that sexuality is the major force, which has been able to condition the manner in which human beings should relate with each other. In that case, sex and its attributes becomes a strong factor, which binds individuals and societies. Therefore, within any sort of social understanding or context, it shall be noted that all elements revolving around human sexuality have been naturally constructed so that they have a direct link with the requirements of the natural society. That way, sexuality has been able to construct itself so that it can render a greater meaning to all social gatherings and institutions such as religious faiths, education, marketing, and even in psychiatry. Therefore, sexuality is one of the greatest societal elements, which have been able to take full shape and control all human interrelationships.

Sexuality in our Society

As we have noted above, sexuality has a great role to play in the society. From historical foundations and developments, sexuality is known to have been regarded or seen as an important concept, which formed the human nature. Since in the nineteenth century, scholars have been able to prove that sexuality has been always regarded as the rightful mean that can effectively define human boundaries. Different psychologists had tried to analyze several theories towards establishing the major role that sexuality was supposed to play in the society. This has hence been able to show to man that, without sexuality in the society, man would not have been able to develop to the modern level of civilization (Giddens, 2003). This means that sexuality has all along been playing the ‘trigger’ role towards overall human development.

As a strong element of sociology, sexuality has been able to give a definition to sex and gender roles, going ahead to different sex roles and sexuality itself. In that case, the issue of sex becomes quite elemental in the society. In that case, sexuality has been playing a vital role in the society by ensuring that the right sexual behaviors with human beings in different societies have been able to develop accordingly and in the appropriate fashion (Giddens, 2003). Due to such kind of approach, growing children will be able to learn and adopt the major behavior performances which are quite appropriate for them, and which does not compromise the societal functioning. In addition, it is still through sexuality that different individuals shall only do what appears acceptable to that given society, and which is in accordance with the practiced culture (Baur, 2008). During child development and growth, the element of sexuality comes in, and thus making difference individuals acquire different body forms, masculine or feminine, and relevant qualities, which guide them all along to the gender roles and expectations within their own society and in accordance with their culture.

During the same developments, it should be seen that the sexuality approaches of the parents shall also influence the sexuality of their children through induction. This will not be only with the issue of their sex orientations and expectations, but also with their academics, achievements and overall dreams. Due to this kind of happening, more often than not, children shall be strictly aiming at achieving what their respective parents were able to achieve, and if possible go far beyond (Baur, 2008). On the other hand, when it happens that the parents are ‘poor’ role models, the children might be the same, or be forced by the society to change and aim at the societal norms and practices. Another important feature with sexuality is that some individuals might go ahead and some morals that are unacceptable in the society and by so doing end up using sex as a way of expressing their hatred and hostility. This means that such individuals have never been satisfied with the society (Baur, 2008). Those people who have been brought up in line with societal understanding on sexuality end up choosing their partners in more careful manner since there do understand there is much more to be expected from sexuality other than sex itself.

Conclusion

As we have noted, sexuality is thus a fundamental element and factor whose influence on human sociology is quite prominent. May be without sexuality and moral developments, there have been fears that the society would be much different as it is right now. The better developed is the sexuality in a given society, the better that given society shall be able to redefine itself and be able to realize a great deal of achievements (Roger, 2000). This is so because sexuality brings in the appropriate tools, which can address all issues faced in the society, guide growth and human development, and promote human cohesion, and understanding of different societies. When such an understanding has been promoted, the society shall be able to live in peace and directed at carrying out operations and businesses, which will promote the overall welfare of their own society. In order to achieve this, different individuals should be made to understand the role and importance of sexuality in the society and why it has to be taken seriously by all. This should be the case since human beings are social creatures and can live without each other.
